What this site collects, and what it does with it
Black Key runs blackkeylifestyle.com from a workshop in Portland, Oregon. This notice says what the site gathers about a visitor, why, and how to ask for it to be changed or removed. Last updated September 24, 2026.
What the form collects
The only way this site gathers anything about you is the stock question form. It asks for your name, an email address for the reply, the object you are asking about, a material or ruling, a shipping state and an optional message. Those fields are sent by the form-handling service the form posts to and arrive as an email at [email protected]. We keep that email for as long as the conversation it belongs to is open, plus whatever a shipping record of a piece you bought reasonably needs, and we then delete it.
The reason we ask is the reason on the form: to answer whether a piece is on the shelf, to give its measurements and weight, and to send it to the right state if you go ahead. We do not use the address for anything else and we do not add it to a mailing list, because there is no mailing list.
The form-handling service
The form is delivered by a third-party relay that turns a web submission into an email. Your submission passes through that relay on its way to us. The relay's own notice governs what it does with the submission in transit; we chose it because it stores nothing for us and sends the message straight on. A hidden trap field on the form catches automated submissions; a person never sees or fills it.
Cookies and the consent choice
This site sets no cookies of its own. It stores one value in your browser's local storage, under the key bk_consent_v1, when you make a choice in the consent notice. That value records whether you allowed analytics and performance measurement and when you chose; its only job is to stop the notice from returning on your next visit. Nothing on the site reads that value today, because no analytics, no advertising and no measurement tool of any kind is installed at launch. If one is ever added, it will run only for visitors whose stored choice allows it, and this notice will be rewritten first.
The page fonts are loaded from a public font service, and your browser makes a request to that service to fetch them. That request carries the ordinary information any web request carries, such as your address on the network; the service's own notice covers it. No other outside request is made by any page.
What we do not do
- We do not sell, rent or trade any information about you, in any form, to anyone.
- We do not run advertising on the site and we do not share your details with advertisers.
- We do not profile visitors or track them between sites.
- We do not collect card or payment details through this site. If you go ahead with a piece, the reply explains how that is handled, and it is not by web form.
Your rights under European law
If the GDPR applies to you, you can ask to see what we hold about you, ask for it to be corrected, ask for it to be deleted, ask for a copy in a portable format, and object to any use of it. We hold so little that the usual answer is a copy of your own email and the reply we sent. Write to [email protected] with the address you used and we will act within a month.
Your rights under California law
If you are a California resident, the CCPA gives you the right to know what we collect and why, the right to delete it, the right to opt out of any sale of it, and the right not to be treated differently for exercising those rights. We sell nothing about anyone, so there is nothing to opt out of; the other three rights are exercised by writing to [email protected].
How to exercise any of this
One address, the same one the form delivers to: [email protected]. Say which right you are using and which email address the request concerns. We do not ask for identity documents; we confirm by replying to the address the original message came from.
Children
The site sells objects to adults and is not written for children. We do not knowingly keep a message from anyone under sixteen; if one has arrived, a parent can write and it will be deleted.
Changes
When this notice changes, the date at the top changes with it. A change that affects what is collected will be made before the collection starts, not after.
