What the site is for

The site lists the everyday-carry objects Black Key makes in runs, with their measurements, materials and weights, and gives you a form to ask whether a piece is on the shelf. It is not an online checkout. Nothing on it can be bought by clicking, and no listing is an offer to sell a particular piece at a particular moment.

A form submission is a question, not a contract

Sending the stock question form asks us something; it does not order anything and it binds neither of us. If you later agree to buy a piece, that agreement is made in the email exchange that follows, on the terms set out there, and only once we have confirmed the piece exists and you have said yes to it. You can withdraw a question at any time before that by writing to [email protected].

Listings and accuracy

Measurements and weights are taken on the bench from pieces in the current run. Leather, brass and paper vary from hide to hide, bar to bar and batch to batch, so an individual piece may differ slightly from its listing; where it matters to you, the reply to your question gives the numbers for the exact piece. We do not make security, anti-theft or protective claims for any object, and nothing on this site should be read as one.

Acceptable use

• Use the form to ask about our objects. Do not use it to send advertising, automated submissions, or anything unlawful.
• Do not attempt to interfere with the site, probe it, or overload the form relay.
• Do not present any part of the site as your own or as belonging to another business.

Intellectual property

The text, layout and mark of Black Key on this site belong to Black Key. Photographs are used under the licenses listed below and remain the work of their creators. You may quote a listing to ask a question or compare an object; you may not copy pages, listings or the site's design for another site or a catalog.

No warranty on the site itself

The site is provided as it is. We keep the listings current when a run changes, but we do not promise that the site will always be reachable, error-free or up to the minute; stock in particular is answered by email precisely because a web page cannot keep up with a shelf.

Limitation of liability

To the extent the law allows, Black Key is not liable for any loss arising from your use of this site, from reliance on a listing before a piece has been confirmed by email, or from anything outside our control, including the form relay and the font service. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law, and nothing here affects the terms of an actual sale agreed by email, which carry their own remedies.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of the State of Oregon, United States, and any dispute about them is heard in the courts with jurisdiction over Portland, Oregon. If you use the site from elsewhere, you do so on that basis.

Changes to these terms

We may revise these terms. The date at the top is the date of the version in force; a revision applies to use of the site after that date, never to an exchange already agreed by email.
